PEDP Newsletter January 2021

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  It feels good to say that!

Before we jump into January, just a brief note about the Craft Boutique: WOW! Despite having to scale down this big event into something pandemic-friendly, it was a huge success! We loved seeing all the joy that week–the kids seeing their crafts on display, picking out gifts for family members, watching their gifts get wrapped up with ribbons and bows. Thank you to our staff for baking some delicious goods to sell, too! Just the twinkling lights put everyone in such a good mood. Why can’t we leave lights up all year?! 💟 Anyway, we raised $1398.75 for the Newton Food Pantry. Isn’t that amazing? That will help so many families put food on the table. Thank you!!

Family Bingo Night -January 30
If we had to pick a favorite game at PEDP, it would have to be BINGO!  We have Bird Bingo, Dog Bingo, Bug Bingo and Ocean Bingo games at EDP as well as the original Bingo version complete with the spinner cage!  With a nod to all the Bingo aficionados out there, the PEDP Fundraising Committee is hosting a Family Bingo Night (via Zoom).
With tailor-made cards featuring categories such as local eateries, PEDP and Peirce staff, and Pop Culture, everyone in your household will have fun filling their spaces on their way to a BINGO.  More information will be emailed shortly, but for now, save Saturday night, January 30.
Puppet Classes with Miss Carol
Miss Carol (currently on leave from PEDP) will be teaching online puppet show classes for 2nd-5th graders at Newton Community Education starting at the end of January.  Participants will come up with ideas for the characters and plot and then make the puppets and scenery. A Zoom performance of the puppet show will take place on the last day of classes. You can sign up for either the Monday class (https://registration.xenegrade.com/nce/coursedisplay.cfm?schID=16112), or the Thursday class  (https://registration.xenegrade.com/nce/coursedisplay.cfm?schID=16119).  Miss Carol would love to see some of her creative PEDP’ers in the class!

January Theme
Our January theme is Children’s Literature.  Our activities, crafts, and games will be tied to books and authors, some that are old favorites and some they may have never heard of. As an example, in the virtual program, one of our activities will be building houses with sticks, straws or sugar cubes and then trying to blow them down.  We will read both the Three Little Pigs as well as the fractured fairy tales, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs and the Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig. If your child has some favorite books, be sure to have them mention them to their PEDP teacher!
Parent Conferences
This month, we will begin scheduling virtual conferences with all parents.  We’ll be sending information home soon about how to sign up for your conference.
