PEDP THANKS FARM GRILL & ROTISSERIE!

During the month of March, our program benefitted from an initiative brought to us from a cause-marketing firm, WAITT (We’re All In This Together).  WAITT’s one-of-a-kind cause marketing company helps businesses grow through a process of mindful and systematic giving.  Each of its Member Businesses commits to donating to a number of local charities, nonprofits and other community-based organizations.

Since joining WAITT in February, PEDP learned that Farm Grill & Rotisserie graciously chose our program as one of their donation recipients during the month of March and they also generously added us to their donation calendar for this coming July and November.  The restaurant will donate to multiple charities and nonprofit organizations that make Greater Boston a better place to live and work.

We would like to thank Farm Grill for their commitment to their community and our program as they encourage everyone to join with them in supporting many worthy nonprofits.  To see their monthly WAITT giving calendar, please go to farm-grill.com.

MINNOWS MESSAGE (Gr. K-1) from Kim Ryan, Minnows Coordinator

Early Minnows

The Early Minnows have been hard at work studying the 50 states.  We learned that the first Dunkin’ Donuts was opened in Quincy, Massachusetts, 75% of the world’s pineapples come from Hawaii and that the turkey was almost chosen as the symbol of the United States instead of the Bald Eagle! Coming up in April, the Early Minnows will be dancing through the month when our theme is music.  There will be singing, dancing, making instruments and so much more!

Late Minnows

The Minnows had such a great time at the Boston Children’s Museum on our field trip!  There was so much to do that no one got through the entire museum. Some of the favorite areas were the bubble room, the KEVA plank room, the climbing structure and tv studio!  If you haven’t been in a while, I definitely suggest checking it out! After our theme of the 50 states, we will be learning about Music!  Also in April, the Minnows will be having clubs on Tuesdays from 4pm-5pm.  The clubs are as follows:

  • Miss Laurie P.- Bingo Club
  • Miss Deb and Miss Laurie F- Healthy cooking (and eating!)
  • Miss Courtney- Tie Dye
  • Miss Kim- Magic

Sounds like a lot of fun!!  You can always reach me at kim@peirceedp.com

BARRACUDA BUZZ (Gr. 2-3) from Joanne Malouf, Barracudas Coordinator

The Barracudas had a great time at the Discovery Museum.  The museum was recently renovated and is bright and open and lots of fun!  We definitely could have spent all day there.  The kids loved exploring the new outdoor tree house, climbing (and bouncing) on the cargo net and swaying in the nest swing.  Inside they raced balls on ramps that had loops and jumps.  They cheered as they watched scarves and large pom poms get forced, by the power of air through the 13-foot pneumatic sculpture of tubes and blowers.  And they got really wet at the water exhibit as they built dams with Legos.  For the United States theme, with Dylan, kids made a list of states they would like to visit one day. Children in one of my projects made sunflowers, the state flower of Kansas, out of paper circles.  Carol kept the Friday group active with theater arts and some new improv activities.  April will send us to our new home base, the Clubhouse, were we will finish up the year.

SHARK TALES (Gr. 4-5) from Rachel Bastarache, Sharks Coordinator

March was a packed month for the Sharks with 3 field trips, a special event and clubs! No wonder this month seemed to fly by! We kicked off our month at the Weston Ski track with perfect weather for our snowy adventure. Then, the entire Tuesday Shark group went to Laser quest for laser tag fun. I think the kids had more fun tagging the staff than each other. The group ended the month at the Aquatic center at Cedarland.

We had an amazing amount of participation during our “Shark Week”. All the Sharks did a great job showing their Shark spirit in very creative ways. We had tons of mismatched outfits on Monday. Everyone enjoyed taking a time out on Tuesday. Did any of the kids mention our crazy balloon popping game we played that day? The creativity exploded on Wednesday with each kid becoming a different word. We even had a chandelier! We ended Shark week by time traveling back in time where the kids got to learn some “old school” games and music that the staff grew up playing.

Swimming on to next month we have a few things on the horizon. The Adventurers will be staying at PEDP on April 23rd to work with the Garden Club from Temple Shalom. They will be learning how to make beautiful flower arrangements. We will be finishing our Thursday clubs in April. For the past 3 Thursdays, the Sharks have been helping Ms. Rachel with props and scenery for the musical, creating 3-D models of famous buildings with Mr. Pablo, or creating superhero crafts with Mr. Sean.

We are happy to welcome Spring with the hope to get outside more and be able to do some teambuilding group activities!

Feel free to e-mail me anytime at Rachel@peirceedp.com
