PEDP Newsletter November 2020

Hello!

In the last month, your children have been busy learning about Frontier Life.  They made butter, cinnamon rolls and apple crisp and crafted covered wagons, totem poles, paper quilts and more.  Hopefully, you have seen their projects or sensed their enthusiasm.  A PEDP bulletin board located in the main hallway at school will feature artwork from our themes each month.

Brrr!  It’s cold outside!

The cooler weather is here!  We try to go outside every day so make sure your child is prepared for the weather of the day – hats and mittens/gloves on cold days and boots and snow pants when there’s snow on the ground.  Windows in the school will remain open throughout the year to help with air flow throughout the building.  Dress your child in layers that can be added or taken off as the indoor temperatures fluctuate.

Annual Giving Fund

The PEDP Annual Giving Fund is underway. It is not too late to make a donation!  Your gift to PEDP will have a greater impact this year than ever before.  We have been overwhelmed by the many donations to date including those from current PEDP families and extended family members, PEDP staff, and PEDP alumni.  No donation is too big or too small!

To donate online, please click this link: “PEDP Annual Giving Fund”

To donate by check, please mail it to: PEDP, 170 Temple Street, West Newton, MA 02465.

November Programming

Our November theme is “Boston”: Duck boats, Freedom Trail, sports, Boston cream pie… so many possibilities!  To add some whimsy to our schedule, we planned two “pajama days”  this month.  They are scheduled for Friday, November 20th and Monday, November 30th. Look for an email with more details. Finally, our remote team, Miss Kim and Miss Laurie, will be offering a sneak peak of what remote PEDP looks like this year.  This preview will be open to everyone on the following dates next month: F 11/6, Tu 11/10, F 11/20, Tu 11/24. Look for the specifics in your inbox next week!

PEDP  “Question of the Day”

During their daily meeting at PEDP, the children are often asked a “Question of the Day”.  At the beginning of the year, PEDP staff members were asked a sampling of these questions.  Each month, we’ll give you a snapshot of our answers. The featured question for this month is: If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be? Miss Kathy, Miss Kim and Miss Laurie would be gingko trees, Mr. Pablo and Miss Rachel would be a weeping willow and Mr. Nick and Miss Nancy would be birch trees.  Miss Courtney would be a willow, Miss Deb a blue spruce, Mr. Dylan a lemon tree and Miss Joanne would be a maple.  Hmm! Great follow up questions…!  What would you be?

Have a great month and as always, feel free to contact your teachers or Miss Kathy with any questions or feedback.

Cheers,

PEDP staff
