Hello PEDP Families!
Well, this is it… for now. The last newsletter of the year means summer is right around the corner, which, for me, means being outside as much as I can, living out my forest wizard fantasies by teaching my nature classes at camp, and looking at snails (and other fun flora and fauna.)
What does summer mean for you? While you contemplate that question, I will fill you in with the PEDP happenings of last month:
In May, during our Paper theme month, EDP kids made so many cool things with one of the most prominent resources on the planet! I’m talking paper origami flowers, impossible paper knots, paper plants, airplanes, and hats! There was so much fun to be had with just a single piece of paper! At the end of the month, we held our Longevity Celebration, where we recognized four staff members who hit their milestones this year (I was one of them, thanks for all who came out, the four of us felt so celebrated. It was a blast!) and also recognized the fifth graders who will be heading off to middle school in the fall. It was interesting to see some of our EDP’ers who’ve been with us since kindergarten ready to step out the door standing right in front of current kindergarteners. Nothing makes you appreciate time’s passing quite like being a teacher. We wish all graduates (and their families) a smooth transition into middle school.
Have you finished contemplating that question yet? No? No worries, there’s still a couple weeks left to prepare.
This month is our National Parks Theme month, which is so exciting! The kids will spend June being mini park rangers and learning all about our 60+ parks, and all the goings on there. We’ve also got those weeks FULL of fun activities and celebrations!
Speaking of, all three groups have planned their end of year celebrations to cap the year off with a bang!
- Minnows are continuing their classic Wacky Water Day tradition, where they get to play outside in the sprinkler, with water toys, chalk, and bubbles on JUNE 10TH. Look out for an email with more details of what to bring by the end of the week.
- Ms. Joanne has prepared a challenging scavenger hunt for the Barracudas on JUNE 17TH. They will have to search around Peirce and the playground to find a variety of clues and red herrings, until they finally reach the end. What waits for them at the end of the search? Well, they’ll have to find out!
- My Sharks kicked off our SHARK WEEK yesterday with our Super Smoothies, and celebrations will continue throughout the week including Carnival day, Wacky ‘Wooder’ Day, and more! With Milkshake Monday going just as smooth as the drinks, I can hardly contain my excitement for the rest of the events we’ve cooked up…
Speaking of events…(my segways are on point this month lowkey) our PEDP Family Picnic is NEXT WEEK!, Thursday, JUNE 11, 5-7pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to hang out with fellow EDP Families and Teachers while we cook up some burgers and dogs, and a slew of other delectables. The event will be held at the Auburndale Cove in their picnic section. PEDP closes at 5:00, late fees will be charged starting at 5:00 pm. Sign up to bring something to share via the Sign Up Genius Link PEDP Family Picnic Sign Up.
Speaking of Sign Up Genius Links… (wow!) Our End Of Year Staff Appreciation Lunch is tomorrow, 6/3!! Thanks to all who have volunteered to donate something to the event. We are still looking to fill a few holes, so please check out the link if you can contribute. We are always so grateful and fortunate to be a part of such a caring community! Speaking of community, Step Up Day will be held TUESDAY JUNE 16TH. This is a great opportunity for EDP kids to get a taste of what’s coming next year. It’s especially interesting for the kids who will be transitioning to a new group next year, but it also allows first year kids to feel what it’s like to be the senior in their group. And for our fifth graders, well they get to take a trip down memory lane by going back to the minnows for the day.
Speaking of… ah, I got nothing. Thanks for being a part of such a great year. It’s an honor to be part of this community and share my passions with the staff and students. I speak on behalf of all the EDP staff when I say we are delighted to be doing this job, and providing this service to the Peirce community. Let’s finish off the year with gratitude and fun, and I’ll be writing to you in September!
