Hello PEDP Families!
October saw each group in the program take an exciting adventure off to fun and interesting places! The Minnows had a mind-expanding time at the Discovery Museum, The Barracudas took a walk on the wild side as they explored the Capron Zoo; the lion there was very vocal and kept calling for them to come back! The Sharks took a walk through the autumn breeze at Drumlin Farm, where we were blown away by the many, many farm animals that roamed the place, including vultures, sheep, and some very hefty cows! Plenty for all in the program to talk about!
We welcomed two new staff last month, and we did so with thankful, open arms! Nancy Carlson started with the Barracudas, and has jumped right in! She’s a pro and is enjoying building relationships with our 2nd and 3rd graders. Amaya Price started with us in the Sharks and has already captured their attention with her athletic ability and dedication to giving the kids a memorable and educational after-school time! Yalaine Perez has just started working with us in the Minnows this month and we are so excited to have her on board!
Although my favorite month has passed, November holds a special place in my heart, and is a very special time for EDP.
Classes/Special Events:
November sees us swing into action to prepare for our Annual Craft Fair. Every teacher from every group will lead our students in making a craft to sell to all of our families. This is an excellent opportunity for the kids to do some holiday shopping, as well as learn all about what it means to serve the community, and make a difference in the world by contributing their hard work to the craft fair, whose proceeds will go to a charity of their choosing. Mark your calendars for the 3rd and the 4th of December, as this is when the Craft Fair will be taking place.
On Nov. 12th, Meteorologist Melanie Black is coming to the program to give a presentation on her work, as well as answer any weather-related questions the kids are sure to have.
Character Camp for the Barracudas has been a great source of fun, as well as a great character-building opportunity for them. So far, the group has discussed teamwork, kindness and patience. Here’s to building better minds!
SMASH Volleyball has been a hit for the Sharks, as they are having a smashing time! One of the Coaches, Preston, even said he was incredibly impressed by their natural athleticism, and how quick they learn.
Musical:
Ready for the next big thing? Well, this year is the 2nd – 5th grade musical which is a hotly anticipated event. Rehearsals will be on Tuesdays beginning in January. Keep a close eye on your email for more information, including this year’s show, audition date, rehearsal schedule and the performance dates.
ANNUAL GIVING FUND:
Loving EDP? Well, so am I! Want it to continue to be a warm, safe, and educational afterschool space for your kids? I do too! It’s time once again for our Annual Giving Fund. Last year we raised over $45,000!!! So far, we have raised close to $20,000. With a greater enrollment and staff this year comes a greater need, so no matter the size of the donation, our goal is 100% participation from current families enrolled in our program. Please see the donation options below:
- To donate online, please click this link PEDP Annual Giving Fund
- To donate by check, please make payable to: “PEDP” and mail to our address (170 Temple)
Reminder:
It’s that time of year again, so be prepared to have this next section drilled into your brain!
PEDP uses the “feels like” temperature when determining what is needed for kids to go outside.
-
- When it feels like the 40°s, as it did several days last week, a warm jacket is needed.
- When it feels like the 30°s, kids will also need a hat and mittens/gloves to go outside.
Please make sure your child is bringing the proper outerwear to school so they can participate in outside activities.
Are you thinking: ‘well, I know I sent them to school with the proper outerwear, how come they don’t have it?’ Well, take a look in the Lost and Found!! There are many–many– jackets, hoodies, coats, water bottles, and lunchboxes. Your child’s belongings may have found its way beneath the stairs by the Pacific.
UPCOMING DATES:
- No PEDP Tuesday, November 4
- No PEDP Tuesday, November 11
- No afternoon PEDP Wednesday, November 26
- No PEDP Thursday, November 27 – Friday, November 28
- Annual Craft Fair– December 3rd + 4th
Thank you all, let’s have a great November!
