Hello PEDP Families!
We are off to a swimming start this month! Our few new staff have jumped right into the Reef and made a big splash! We are so happy to have them, as well as all of our returners! Our team of teachers were busy this month coming up with a bunch of activities for our “Made in Massachusetts” theme, ranging from Mass-themed Shrinky Dinks, to following the original recipe for Massachusetts Toll House cookies! For our first early release Thursday of the year, we brought in Malik the Magic Guy to show off his mystifying magic skills! The kids were blown away!
So September was great, but here’s what’s coming to the Reef next month:
We are looking forward to our next curriculum theme, which is The Big Apple(s)!
During October we will be learning all about New York City with a variety of arts and crafts, STEM, and more! Along with NYC, we’ve added an additional layer to this theme, which is “Apples”! The kids will have a ton of fun baking, cooking, and drawing a variety of different apples from the state that produces the widest variety of them in America!
We are very excited to introduce two new classes to PEDP!
Wednesday Barracudas have the opportunity to sign up for Character Camp, where they will meet each week starting on October 15th for some hands-on activities that teach seven different character strengths, like teamwork, kindness, patience, etc.
Wednesday Sharks have the opportunity to sign up for SMASH Volleyball! The SMASH teachers teach the fundamental skills of volleyball, and have the kids engage in plenty of games to apply their skills. They will meet in the gym Wednesdays Oct. 8th- Nov. 12th.
And here’s some info about our most popular EDP class of them all… skiing!!
Skiing and Snowboarding (Grades 2-5) is back!
This six-week program will run on Wednesdays from January 7th to February 11th. An email with detailed information will be sent in about a week.
PLEASE NOTE:
-
Per our Parent Handbook, we will be implementing a two-stage Ski/Snowboard enrollment process based upon the number of days a student is enrolled in PEDP.
-
Nashoba will NOT be offering snowboarding lessons to school groups this year. However, if your child is an experienced snowboarder (i.e. able to snowboard on intermediate slopes and ride the lift without an adult), they will be able to snowboard with a PEDP staff member during the lesson time but without formal instruction.
-
This year, we are at capacity on Wednesdays and thus, will not be able to enroll any children in this program who are not already enrolled on Wednesdays.
REGISTRATION OPENS Monday, October 20th @ 7A.M. until Tuesday, October 21st @ 7A.M. for students enrolled in PEDP 3-5 afternoons per week.
***NOTE: Registration will be closed for a 24-hour period***
REGISTRATION RE-OPENS Wednesday, October 22nd @ 7A.M. for students enrolled in PEDP one or more afternoons per week.
*Please be advised that this program filled up within minutes last year
October is a big month for field trips for PEDP, each group is going on one.
-Wednesday Minnows will be going to The Discovery Museum in Acton Wed, Oct. 29th.
-The Tuesday Barracudas will be going to the Capron Park Zoo in Attleboro on Tuesday, October 28, an early release day.
-Tuesday Sharks are heading for an adventurous trip to Drumlin Farms in Lincoln on Tuesday, October 28th. An early release day.
Check your emails in the coming week for more information about these trips and how to sign up.
Friday, Oct. 24th we are excited to bring back our popular Kids Night In event, where kids can either stay late on Friday, or be dropped off at 6:00 for a night of pizza, a movie, and a chill craft. This super chill and dun night ends at 9:00, so make sure your child is picked up by then. Enjoy a night off with peace of mind, knowing your kids are having fun, and being taken care of!
As a reminder, PEDP uses the “feels like” temperature when determining what kids need to wear when going outside. I am so happy to feel the beautiful autumn weather however, it can bring some brisk breezes, so during these days the kids will be required to wear a long-sleeved second layer or jacket to go outside. Please help them pack these in their backpacks so they don’t miss out on their precious outdoor time.
Dates To Remember:
Oct. 2nd- No School/EDP
Oct. 13th- No School/EDP
Oct. 24th- Kids Night In
Oct. 28th- Early Release Tuesday
We’ve had a lovely time so far, and I’m excited to see what we get up to in the coming months! Thanks for your time, see you next month for our next newsletter!
