PEDP Newsletter May 2023

May is here and so is the ever looming anticipation of summer break. I know some of the kids are ready for it. But for now, the program is business as usual. Thanks to everyone for a smooth running and fun spring vacation program. So many fun activities and field trips took place, and everyone seemed to love it. My favorite moment was watching the blacksmith at Old Sturbridge Village. We hope those who stayed home or traveled enjoyed their much needed break.

CURRICULUM

The circus is in town, and no, I do not mean the usual circus that our children put on. For the month of May, PEDP will be under the Big Top. This is about to be a show that would put the Ringling Brother’s to shame. While there won’t be any trained animals performing, no flaming hoops to jump through, nor any sky high acrobatics, our teachers are putting together a series of fun activities. There will even be a special event.

FIELD TRIPS

Minnows (5/11)

Blue Hills hike

Make sure to pack comfortable shoes and some sunscreen. This trek may be no easy feat, but I’m confident our Minnows are up for the task.

Barracudas (5/24)

Discovery Museum Acton

Discovery Museum is a hands-on museum that blends science, nature, and play.  They will explore and learn STEM concepts and have fun doing it.

Sharks (5/24)

Mini Golf @ Kimball Farm

Join us at this fun center for an exciting game of Miniature golf.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Longevity and Graduation celebration

Thursday June 1st

Come celebrate the dedication of our veteran staff members celebrating milestones as well as our graduating fifth graders. More information about the event to come soon.

Minnows K/1 Review

Wednesday May 31st

Rehearsals have begun. Reminder for the parents: the children should be practicing at home to ensure a stunning performance. We are confident they will put on a great show.

“Under the Big Top”

Thursday May 11th

The barracudas and sharks will enjoy a variety of circus activities in PEDP’s very own circus.

*Trained elephants are unfortunately not included.

LUNCH

ATTN: The program requires children to eat at least half of their lunch that is packed or provided. Some students do not enjoy the provided lunch on early releases–it’s always a cold lunch and not very creative. Please pack them a lunch if this is the case.

FUNDRAISING

Trivia Night and Silent Auction – Friday May 5th

Please sign up if you haven’t already. There are still a few seats left!

Take a look at some of our silent auction items at pickup so you can be prepared to bid.

Program is closing early (5:30pm) so staff may attend the event

CALENDAR:

Monday May 29th – No school or PEDP

Best,

Mr. Nick
