PEDP Newsletter April 2025

Hello PEDP families! The month of April is here and spring weather will (hopefully) finally be arriving. Read on to hear all about our new and upcoming events as well as all the wonderful things we did in March.

A big thank you to all who came out to support our Minnows in their fabulous K-1 Review production, Musical Musings! The kids gave a shining performance with amazing singing and even received a standing ovation!! Special thank you to Ms. Courtney and Ms. Deb W. for co-directing and choreographing such beautiful songs. They also designed and painted the lovely backdrop of the kids’ silhouettes!

The Sharks went on a field trip a couple of weeks ago to Hometown Arcade in Norwood for the first time. Their attention was fully occupied with over a hundred games to play, ranging from classics like Frogger and Pacman, to modern favorites like Fortnite. They competed against each other in Air Hockey, raced on the virtual racers, and tried to master over a dozen pinball machines! So much fun.

The Barracudas had a blast on their annual bowling trip to Ryan Family Amusements. There

were spares and strikes and even the occasional gutter ball even though the bumpers were up!

Special Events

The Minnows had a fantastic special event “Day Down-Under!” where they learned all about the

fantastic beasts and wildlife found in Australia!

Classes

Hip Stitch classes continue. The weeks when the kids are using the machines, they are making

a pillow with an applique. During the hand sewing weeks, they are learning several embroidery

stitches. They’re all doing great and learning so much.

Movement and Mindfulness, a class for the Wednesday Minnows, will be starting April 30th. More info about signing up will be sent separately to the Wednesday Minnow group.

Curriculum Theme

The theme for this month will be Rice! The children will be learning just how important this resource is to different cultures and will also be enjoying many creative projects. They will be experts on this product by the end of the month and we hope that you will ask them about it as repetition solidifies learning 🙂

Upcoming Events

World Autism Awareness Day is Wednesday April 2nd. The Sharks have all been asked by Ms. Yvonne to wear blue in support of those who live with this developmental disability. April is Autism Awareness Month and this is something close to her heart as she has three sons on the spectrum. She will also be speaking and sharing with the kids about acceptance and inclusion of the neurodiverse community. Sadly, this will also be her last day at PEDP and she will miss everyone dearly!

In addition, on April 16th there will be an enriching presentation in the gym on Autism by the Understanding Our Differences program for our Barracudas and Sharks. There will also be a special guest speaker!

Field Trips

On May 8th, an early release Thursday, all fish groups will be going to The Beach House in Natick. We have rented the state-of-the-art, indoor beach facility. With almost 15,000 square feet of deep radiant-heated sand and 30 foot ceilings, we’ll have fun playing volleyball, cornhole,

football and just playing in the sand. So exciting! Details will be emailed in the coming weeks.

Fundraising

5/2 is Trivia Night! It will be tons of fun! There will be dinner and drinks, as well as a raffle, silent auction, and trivia!!! Don’t miss out, sign up today!
