From Kathy’s Desk…
Cooking is just one of the many enrichment activities we do at PEDP. Just this week, a Minnow’s group made Cheese Ball Pumpkins with Miss Kim! I do hope your children are having conversations with you about what they do each day at PEDP but if not, hopefully you are gathering some snippets from these newsletters.
I have photographed over half of you parents thus far in my efforts to help the staff learn all your names. Courtney and I will be working on trying to get to the rest of you this month.
November will be a really busy month as we are gearing up for our annual Craft Fair!
CURRICULUM
Our theme this month will be Crafts for the Fair. Our annual fair will be held on the two early releases next month, December 4thand 5th. This is a super fun event for the kids and it gives them a terrific opportunity to shop for holiday gifts on their own. The Craft Fair is also a way for us to teach our children about community service. We donate at least half of our proceeds to a charity. This year, we will be supporting The Service Dog Project (SDP) in Ipswich. SDP has donated over 150 Great Dane service dogs to individuals with mobility limitations to assist them in achieving greater independence. Preference is given to Veterans and their families as well as residents of the New England area. I encourage you to check out their website where there is a terrific 3-minute video about the organization: servicedogproject.org You can also watch what the puppies and dogs are up to via their live web cams!

MINNOWS MESSAGE from Kim Ryan, Minnows Coordinator
Early Minnows
What great weather we had for the Early Minnow pumpkin walk! Each group did such a great job walking to The United Parish of Auburndale and picking out fabulous pumpkins! The people working there were so excited to see all the kids and were so nice! We kept the pumpkins to decorate and everyone did a great job! If you get the chance, check out the house on Woodland Road. They hide pumpkins in their yard every year and this year they hid 12 pumpkins! Drive by and see how many you can find!
Late Minnows
The Late Minnows finished up their clubs this month and some really cool creations were made by all. October was a fun month of crafts, building, outside, cooking and gym!
Paper Mouse has also ended for the Minnows. The kids that were signed up for this class LOVED it!
The K/1 review continues with rehearsals on Tuesdays. Lyrics were handed out and everyone should be practicing, practicing, practicing!! Please help your child out with learning the words. Playing the songs while driving or just hanging around the house is so helpful!
As my favorite month and holiday come to an end, we begin to focus on the Craft Fair. This month there will be a lot of preparing for our fair in December. More information about this will be going out soon!

BARRACUDA BUZZ from Joanne Malouf, Barracudas Coordinator
The Barracudas had a great time with their Tuesday clubs this month. Dylan’s student athletes learned about being disciplined and setting goals to work toward. Many have been continuing their daily warmups at home. My group of sewers did a fabulous job hand-sewing a stuffed alpaca. The group was very focused on the project and as they gained more experience, they were able to help each other out. Carol’s puppet show club did a fabulous job coming up with the details for the story. After Carol wrote the script, the kids worked hard on creating their puppets and the scenery. We all enjoyed the production last Tuesday. Thank you to all of the parents, sitters and siblings of the puppeteers who came to watch the show. November will bring craft fair projects, craft fair projects and more craft fair projects, as we get ready for our favorite community service project of the year. We’ve been talking about the Craft Fair with the kids, what happens at the fair and where they would like to see our donation go this year. We are all very excited for this fun time of year.

SHARK TALES from Rachel Bastarache, Sharks Coordinator
The Sharks have been busy this month discovering what goes bump in the night. We started creating our own spooky stories. The kids got really creative and decorated Ms. Kathy’s hallway door. I recommend you take a look. With Mr. Pablo, they created their own haunted house. All the kids seemed to really get into this fun theme. The Sharks also started clubs this month. Ms. Laurie D had her group cooking yummy meals in a mug. The kids were discovering different cultures around the world with Mr. Pablo. Others were busy with Ms. Rachel creating their own scrapbooks. Those with Mr. Sean were learning and playing the original game of Dodge Ball!
The Adventurers took a trip to the Pure Sugar factory in Holliston, where they learned about the history of the lollipop and got to create and decorate their own edible jewelry.
Swimming into next month, we will be busy crafting for the fair. The kids have been discussing where our donation should go this year. It has been wonderful to hear all of their heartfelt concerns with all they see happening in the world today. On a different note, as the weather is getting colder, the kids need to be prepared to go outside with the appropriate apparel. I know they love to wear just a sweatshirt, but when it’s only 40 degrees outside, that will not suffice.
How’s homework going? Please feel free to reach out anytime with any questions or concerns.
