From Kathy’s Desk…
Have you taken your family to Battleship Cove? Our group had a great time there during the Spring Vacation Week!
Well, today feels rather wintry but the rest of the week sounds like it’s going to be a prelude to summer! You have to love New England, eh? Before I get to all the news of what’s to come this month, I have a few thanks. First of all, a huge thank you to all who attended one (or more!) of our performances of “Willy Wonka”. Despite all the illness going through the school, all three performances were wonderful. The children were terrific and seemed to really have fun. We raised $750 as well for the school in Puerto Rico, which is impressive.
Thank you, also, to everyone who attended or supported our “Sip & Shop” event! The orders are still coming in for Ellie Kai and bSilverbangles and maybe you even saw a painting you liked from Chartzie? We’ll update you in a few days with the numbers but suffice it to say for now the event was extremely successful for our scholarship program. We are so appreciative of your support. For those of you who missed it, we can still take orders this week and 20% of all sales will go to support our scholarship fund so don’t be shy! You can make an appointment to see the clothing or bracelets and you can look at the artwork online as well. Please let us know if you would like to make a purchase. Thank you to the three vendors, Suzanne Winton for Ellie Kai, Michele Leonard for bsilverbangles and Chaya Mallavaram for Chartzie. Special thanks go to Maria Conroy for hosting!

MINNOWS MESSAGE from Kim Ryan, Minnows Coordinator
Early Minnows
It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s the super minnows! What a fun and exciting month of superhero crafts and facts. The early minnows were super into our theme for April. They learned the stories behind some of the most well-known and not very well known superheroes. I think their favorite was Captain Underpants!! During our May theme, we will be talking about all kinds of topics related to sports and games, including nutrition, game play and understanding the rules. We may even have the kids make up their own game or sport! This month, information will be sent out about the Early Minnows field trip that is happening in June. Stay tuned!
Late Minnows
There is so much going on right now in the late minnows! Circus club on Wednesdays, Kids Cooking Green on Tuesdays, Early release field trip and clubs!
Kids Cooking Green begins May 1st!
The Minnows early release field trip to Kimball Farm is May 3rd. If you haven’t told us your plans, please do so ASAP!
On Fridays in May, the minnows will be having clubs. Miss Laurie P. will be doing Yarn Crafts, Miss Courtney will be doing nature crafts and Miss Kim will be doing a clay-sculpting club.
With the warm weather coming (and hopefully staying!), it would be helpful to send your child with a water bottle labeled with their name if you don’t already do so.
As always, feel free to contact me at kim@peirceedp.com
BARRACUDA BUZZ from Joanne Malouf, Barracudas Coordinator
As usual, the Barracudas have been busy. Our Superheroes theme brought decoupage comic book folders and superhero games. Science brought out the bubble snakes. Now that it appears the warmer weather is here, I’m sure we’ll be spending a lot more time outside. Feel free to send your child with a hat and/or sunscreen. We are happy to help children apply the sunscreen that you send with your child. The Wednesday kids took part in a teambuilding relay race. The children were grouped with others they don’t often interact with and had to work together to get their whole team from one part of the field to another. The kids cheered each other on and had a great time with the challenge. The Tuesday group will have clubs in May. Laurie F. will do Duct Tape Crafts, Carol will do Drama, Kathy will do the Restaurant Club, I will do Sewingand Dylan hopes to do Garage Band. Explorers Trip Program– The Explorers headed to Drumlin Farm at the beginning of April to help with some farm chores. Despite the rain, the kids enjoyed feeding the chickens and goats. The best was feeding the cows by tossing hay down from the window on the second floor of the barn. Enjoy the great weather!
Please feel free to contact me at joanne@peirceedp.com with questions or concerns about your child or the Barracuda Program.
SHARK TALES from Rachel Bastarache, Sharks Coordinator
April was a month of Super Hero fun! The Sharks created their own comic book stories with their very own Super heroes. They learned the differences between story lines of the many heroes by creating their masks, the weapon and even their forms of transportation. The Sharks had clubs on Wednesdays in April and the creativity was awesome. Ms. Nancy’s group created some beautiful decorative crafts while others created wallets, key chains, even their own journal out of Duct tape with Ms. Rachel. Mr. Sean’s club tested out their building skills and even amazed themselves when they built a structure out of index cards that reached the celling!
Swimming into May, the Sharks have a full schedule coming their way. The staff has a special event in the works that will be planning in the next few weeks. It’s based around teamwork and the importance of working together. Also, the Sharks are preparing anther “big fish little fish” surprise for the Minnows. Has your Shark told you about our “big fish little fish” relationship with the minnows? If they haven’t you should ask them what it’s all about.
Sharks have two field trips coming up in May. First one is this Thursday May 3rd. We are heading to the trampoline park Launch in Watertown. Our second trip in May is for the Adventurers they will be going to the New Art Center on May 15th. They will not just be learning about the art being displayed there, but creating their own art with clay. Sounds like a lot of fun going on this month and finally some nice weather to go with it.
Please feel free to contact me at rachel@peirceedp.com Happy Spring!
