Ski/Snowboard Program

Yahoo!  We are pleased to offer PEDP children SKIING/SNOWBOARDING CLASSES! When the snow flies in January, we hope to take several enthusiastic kids to the slopes of the Nashoba Valley Ski Area. Last year’s group had a terrific time. Read on for the details. . .

Who can ski/snowboard?  Any child enrolled in PEDP and in grades 1-5 (regardless of skiing/snowboarding ability) may take advantage of this program. Nashoba instructors will group children into classes of about 10-12 students according to ability. We are limited to bringing 45 skiers. First come, first serve. There is currently no limit for snowboarders.

What day will it be and how long will it go?  Classes will be on Tuesday afternoons. This will be a 6-week program starting January 5 and running through February 9. The children will have a one-hour lesson starting at 3:00 p.m. They will usually have some free ski/snowboard time with a buddy or a PEDP staff member, too. Finally, we will have snack and head back to Peirce.

Please note:  During lessons and free ski time, the PEDP staff will know the general whereabouts of the children. However, they may not be directly supervised during these times. There are several times throughout the afternoon when the children have to check in with PEDP staff.

How will they get there?  PEDP will be renting a Motor Coach with underneath storage for the ski/snowboard equipment. This bus is equipped with seat belts to transport the children and PEDP staff members to Nashoba Valley. The bus will leave Peirce on skiing days at 1:15 p.m. and return to the school by 5:45 p.m. It is about a 40-minute bus ride each way.

Can I go as a chaperone?  Absolutely! We’d love to have help buckling all those boots! Chaperones can ski/snowboard, too, so if you’d like to take the afternoon off and go with us, just let me know. We have a limited amount of chaperone badges, however, so you may have to purchase your lift ticket that day.

How much will this cost?  The cost of lessons/lift tickets for the 6 weeks is $190.00. If your child needs equipment (skis, boots, and poles, or snowboard and boots), he/she MUST be present for our prefit session which will be held here at PEDP on Tuesday, November 10. Representatives from Nashoba Valley’s rental department will be doing the fitting. The rental cost will be $110.00 for either the ski or snowboard package. PEDP will also need to charge a $125.00 fee for transportation. The total will be:

$315 if your child has his/her own equipment

$425 if your child will need to rent ski/snowboard equipment

Ski helmets are required for all children. At the prefit helmets will be available for purchase at a cost of $60.00.

Finally, there is an added cost of up to $330.00 ($55.00 per day) IF YOUR CHILD DOES NOT ATTEND PEDP ON TUESDAYS. This will be billed as extra hours for the days your child attends at the END of the 6-week program.

Please make checks payable to: Peirce Extended Day Program.

PLEASE NOTE: An informational meeting is required for parents of children signing up for PEDP’s Ski/Snowboard program at Nashoba Valley for the first time. Kathy will spend about 20 minutes telling you how the program is run and there will be time for Q & A afterward. This meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 17th at 5pm in the Peirce Library.

Doesn’t this sound like a blast?! If your child is interested, please fill out the permission slip and return it with payment to PEDP by Friday, October 30th. The group list will be sent out by mid-December. Pray for a snowy winter!

Kathy
